hey guys, first of all thanks for the replies. for a bit, i thought i had my mind made up, but im still on the fence, haha. now here was an interesting reply by one of the guys in the FI forum. have any of you heard about such things like losing compression or dropping sleeves?? there's a quality motor builder here in vegas (combination motorsports) that specializes in LS1s so im not worried about the work being done correctly, i just dont want to drop 10k in a motor and have it last 3 or 4 thousand miles.
First, I don’t know why people say a 427 is more reliable than a stock cubied FI forged setup. There is a larger chance that the extra stroke will kill the engine which is why stroked motors start losing compression in few thousands miles if NOT built right or dropping a sleeve (Unless u went with a C5R block $6000 ). Second, a 427CID setup without NOS or boost can only dream about the power a forged boosted 346cid can produce. Third, a 427 will cost a lot more than a forged 346 using the stock crank, heads, cam and a D-1SC or F1 blower or even a Turbo
for now, im really thinking an iron 408 might be the way to go, then just throw some boost at it later. who knows though =/

I think we all have heard of many more f/i motors blowing than strokers. A boosted motor will generally not last as long as n/a for obvious reasons. The sleeve dropping issue is an old issue. n/a is lighter. Easier to tune. Most don't need 7-800rwhp all the time. Wheelspin don't win races. Cool to brag about a dyno pull I guess. A stroker with a bottle for the few times you need the extra power is good for me. Prices, ecpecially with the Eagle cranks out now, are alot lower than they used to be. But either one is cool as hell.
so far i have it narrowed down to a Rapid Motorsports LS2 427ci crate motor, or just leaving the 346 in there and throwing some AFR 205's, a semi-reasonable cam, and an ATI Procharger on there.
Bro, are you referring to a stock LS2? If so, the nod goes directly to FI 346.
A 427 is sweet, but why not go cheaper and get a 408 and then add FI with it, how much hp do you want? Nitrous is cheap and easy but FI is always there, get a turbo and a forged 408. That is what will be under my hood when it's paid off in a year. SLP has it's 408 stroker kit on sale for $2500 then get a $600 iron block and then get that shop to put it together and do the machining. You would have $3500+ in a block alone with the 427. Just think about the fuel system when it comes to exspenses also, and if you want to take it to the track the saftey equipment you will need to run those low times. Then there is also suspension to plant all that power. Just think about everything before you jump in and the bill starts piling up, already had a friend do that.....
if you aren't going to spray it, then go fi. saw a heads/cam/blower car pull a 434 z06 3 of 4 races last night. as both cars demonstrated, you won't be bale to hook either one on the street
