Be sure to get the surfaces very clean and clean the bolt holes out also.

I've never removed a head before, but from what I've read on this site you have to make sure the bolt holes are completely clean/dry prior to installing the head. Some people have cracked thier block during the install because there was still some coolant left in the bolt holes. So the bottom line is make sure there is ABSOLUTELY no coolant in the bolt holes prior to installing the heads.

Just my opinion (from experience), but I would invest in the ARP head studs, especially if you may end up taking the heads off more than once (and being a beginner, a mistake is possible, thus having to remove the heads again). The cost of the studs is basically the same as buying head bolts twice, so I think its a good investment. Just be sure to follow the torquing procedure.

Buying the ARP head studs was some of the best money I've spent.

Don't you need to be fixing all those loose bolts from your K member swap?
