What "could" happen if?????
you put 6 qrts of oil instead of 5 1/2??
I actually did this today when changing my oil!
"Was not paying attention" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
Started my car "cold weather" while putting empty oil bottles in trash, noticed 6 empty ones!!
Then noticed engine shaking like Elvis!?
killed the car, drained 1/2 to 3/4 quart. Started car would barely idle..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Worked it's way out, drove car & ALL IS GOOD!! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
Anyway, what could happen? Car runs between 50 & 70 psi. Thanks........... Matt

Re: What "could" happen if?????
Well..if you filled it to the point where your crank was touching the oil you could wind up beating the oil into a foamy froth with the crank. as for your 1/2 quart....I wouldn't worry about that extra half a quart. It's not going to make that much of a difference. in the level of the oil in the pan.

I have heard that nothing really happens in terms of it being bad....i think i read somewhere where the cars use 7 quarts for autocrossing!...as far as regular driving....hmmm...I don't think its bad if you add the whole 6 quarts....

Re: What "could" happen if?????
You're totally safe. It's true, the LS1 can handle 7 quarts of oil even.
The more oil you run (up to the point where it's overfilled that is) the better. That's because there is less stress overall on the oil when there is more of it.
