Default ticking, good or bad?

my cousin has a 1998 t/a and i have a 2000 t/a they both have under 35,000 ,miles. When you first start it up and a for a bout five - seven minutes after startup the valves tick kinda loud. Is this normal operation?

That sounds very normal. My 02 Z28 sounds like a diesel for the first few minutes, then after driving around a while, it becomes very quiet.

I wouldn't call it normal, but GM does.

That was so annoying, That is exacly what both my cars did when they were stock, When I did my H/C swap I changed out the stock lifters with comp 850-16's. Now my valve train has a sewing machine sound but I dont have that annoying ticking sound any more. In my opinion It's alot quieter now.
