853 head gaskets and 241 head gaskets are different the 853 head has a raised part
or hole on the bottom of the head better check into it further about the interchangability! I no ya have to weld in the opening and have the head resurfaced on the older heads if ya use the newer gaskets.

The difference is on the sealing rings..The later model gasket seals on the outside rim of the head instead of curving up around the cylinder. Some 853s have the notch on the deck surface that will leak and some don't....IF you have an old casting that has the ~1" x .25 x .100 deep notch betweeen 2 cylinders it WILL leak. Been there...
