I think some time the more conservative combination with all matching parts will make a better all around performer than a combination with mix match parts( big cam 3-series gears). Big cam combinations with steep gears 4-series, heavy ported heads, big cams and converters are only good at the track and will kill a small cam combination in the 1/4. On the freeway, a different story!

I am going to disagree with you there. I mean for real how many people race past 120 or 130.......Why would the freeway make any difference. Even with my steep gears I am going to take you from a role of 50 or 60 is some ways you will probably get rapped worse cause I am going to stay in the 5000 or even 6000 rpm range.......Street racing is where you are going to have your best advantage going from a dig and hopping that I get no traction. So I am not sure if I agree with you a whole lot

As stated before, I know both of these cars, while I have never raced the "big cammed" SS, I have lined up next to the "smaller" cammed SS. And I can tell ya, he can drive that car!!! He is a bit heaver than the other SS as well, he has a 100 pd. roll cage in it. And I have seen him beat other "big cammed" cars on the street as well. HP numbers on a dyno only mean so much when it comes to who will win races. The 228 cammed car is really set up well, heads and cam go together well......he is a hard car to beat by anyone!!

There's one main reason. The 4.30 gears over the 4.10 gears will help a little. Plus it was an 8th mile and the 4.10 car wasn't hooking as well. I'd say the 4.10 car is a low 11 second car while the 4.30 car is a mid 11 second car. Sounds about right to me. Don't get too caught up in minute differences. It's all about the combination. Sounds to me the 4.30 car is better equiped for the 1/4 mile, all else being equal.

BTW, my car does quite well for a 222/222 cam but I would trade it in a heart beat for a T-Rex or MS3 or G5X4.
