Default 408 Questions

I have a few questions for the guys with 408's. I have been thinking about going 408, but am still not sure.

What kind of heads are most guys running? I figure the 6.0 heads. Which company(s) have you guys had the most luck with on the heads?

Is a 90mm FAST necessary? I have a 78, and I know a lot of the 408 guys go with the 90. I know the 90 will pull better power, but just how much benefit is there?

What cam specs have been the best? I am still looking for a "streetable" car though. I am not really concerned about that, but I don't want a car that is a total bitch to drive. . .some kind of medium between a high power cam, and a decent drivablity cam.

For the guys that have 408's and drive them often; have any of you had any real issues on the street with daily driving? Reliablilty, dying at red lights, major drop in gas mpg, or anything else that might have made you wish you had just stuck with forged stock displacement?

Thanks

I'm sure there are lots of guys with more experience than me, but here's my .02.
I've had my 408 for about 5 months now, and think its great. My setup includes Patriot ST3 LS6 style heads, a Comp Cams 242/248 cam, BBK 80mm TB with the stock intake manifold, and headers. I put down the numbers in my sig with the car tuned for 91 octane and to live daily here in Vegas. It runs and drives great. If I wasn't trying to sell the car, I'd put the FAST intake/TB setup on and be over 500 at the wheels. As far as gas mileage goes, well, that isn't why I had the motor built.

Go with ported LS6 heads, I have RGR Stage III heads, and yes go with the 90mm intake/TB. big cube motors need to BREATH.
I have the Speed Inc SS1 cam and made sick power considering I have a TH400 and 12bolt with full exhaust

Stock Ported
No
Was TREX, now custom turbo grind
Only downfall of the 408 was the $$ it cost, could have been put into the turbo system, but now the turbo system is almost done and its all good, also wish i would have gone 7.5:1 or 8:1

Call the guys at APE, they can make you an awesome combo. I am going with their heads and cam package, custom is the only way to go with a big motor. I was guaranteed quite a bit of rwhp with just an ls6 intake and 1 3/4" LT's. You should call them and see what they can do for you. Also, I do not plan on running the 1 3/4"'ers, I'll be doing some kooks 1 7/8 stepped to 2" with 3 1/2" merge collectors, however I will stick with the ls6 intake for now until I can afford an lsx 90/90, the intake already has the direct port nozzles and everything.
