Default How much time required to do a H/C change?

I want to know it take to do a H/C change for the first time. I have 7 days to do the H/C swap, full exhaust, QA1 drag shocks, rollbar and tuning. Any opinions/

It took me 4 days to do a head and cam swap the first time... that was with several trips riding my bike back and forth to the parts store because I kept forgetting things , and no garage, so I was limited by daylight every day. 7 days should be PLENTY of time to do what you listed as long as you are prepared and have a decent area to do the work in.

heads and cam can be done in one full day (it'll be a long one though!) providing you have all the parts ready to go.

Shocks should take 1-2 hours

You can factor in exhaust time while doing the H/C since you'll already have the heads off, about an hour or so

So let's say you add in dick around time, that should leave you finished in two days! 5 more days to do tuning and chassis work!

I'd recommend someone there to help you and it should go plenty fast. Otherwise things get to be a pain in the *** and a lot more snags come up. It helps to have someone else to overcome those snags, help out, and look at things different ways.

I have pulled the heads off before after I trashed the lifter in a bad mis-shift. That took me 2-1/2 day because I had to disassemble them to replace the valvetrain. Is there a way to pull the cam out without bleeding and removing the A/C condensor? Maybe unbolt the tranny support beam and tilt the motor?

@ my work i have a snap-on shopkey program that gives estimates, and sincei have to replace a lifter in my car i have just looked at it, 11.5 hrs of book time definitely figure on some more if you havent been in there before. The beginning of next month i have to replace a lifter in my 98 z28 and im gonna swap the cam, if anyones in the area that for whatever reason cant get enough of ls1 work i could surely use a hand and some expertise... i've got a garage available to me with any tool you'd ever need and a lift..

Looks like you can just slide (gently) the AC components out of the way.

I did my first cam change last weekend. I used a bungy cord to hold the AC condensor up so I could get the cam out.
It took me 2 1/2 days. Next time will be faster.
