Car not idling

Car not idling Ok first off my car is as stock as I bought it (the only mods that I can find on the car is a catback...which with my luck is a flowmaster 
) I haven't done any cam swaps or anything that should affect the idle. Today I took the SAT and when I started the car to go home it died instantly...after this happening again I gave it some gas to keep it going but I noticed that the rpms fluctuated from as high as 1000RPM to 500RPM. For the first 4 miles of my drive home the car would die anytime I pushed the clutch in long enough for the engine to idle down. It finally quit doing this but I noticed the engine idle down a lot faster than normal when I would coast; so I know that the problem didn't go away. The car only has about 17,400 miles (bought it with about 10000) and it just got out of the stealership last monday for a looking seal on the rearend. Any ideas about what could be going wrong?

clean your iac valve make sure its not sticking and check for vacuum leaks. I had some idle trouble recently due to lots of stuff on my iac valve. cleaned it off and it idles smooth now.

Well it went away...it started doing this when my car was on about 1/4 tank left. I'm attributing it to water in gas for now, if it happens again I'll know what to check for. Thanks.

clean the 2 brass ground posts on either shock tower front./ Take ground wires off and really sand/clean them good. Those bein corroded used to make my idle go NUTS! just one of the fabulous gotchas of cpmputer based cars.
