If you are afraid to run it hard, then do not mod, IMO.
Parts will brake regardless of how good they are.
A lot of us keep bitching about the slack in the single chain, but whether you put, LS1/ LS6, LS2 or J-WISS, they all have slack. Maybe that should tell us something (Like it is there for a reason)

I would think its rapid changes in engine rpms that puts most of the stress on timing chains. Like during unintended downshifts or when revvin the motor at wot in neutral.

With an automatic car the rpms dont vary as much and thats why they never break chains.

I've been wondering about this myself. Perhaps this slack is to account for the thermal expansion of the aluminum block at operating temperature, which would be considerably more than a iron block of the same design. Maybe if a new chain that is "tight" upon install has only two options (stretch or break) when the motor heats up, these are the results we are seeing?

Hell, now I'm afraid to run the motor hard the whole reason I built it up in the first place.
Whats a timing chain dampener? Are you talking about the Harmonic Balancer like Fluidampr?
