FYI, my '02 Z28 ticked when I picked it up brand new at the dealer with 11 miles on the clock. A shop in NJ put bolt-ons and a head & cam swap for me and the tic was still there. Then Dez put in new springs, timing chain, and P1 and no more tick. So possibly there is some merit to the timing chain idea?

I had a noticeable tick, too. Turned out it was a loose spark plug. Sometimes it's the little things that go unnoticed.

Oh and two dealers couldn't find it, nor could MTI. One dealer said it was normal; they all sound like that!!?!?! The other said bad rocker arm.

Just check all the plugs. Easiest fix.

As for my tick, (still not fixed) i have pulled the plugs and reinstalled them, so its not a plug problem with my car. As for 1fst99 let me know if the new chain fixes the problem.

well I put the head back on and it doesnt seem to be the problem. all new plugs all of them tight. the car is on the lift so I lifted it and it seems to be either coming from the front of the oil pan, CYL 1 main or rod bearing,or timing chain, or oil pump. I am at a loss. I am about to just give up. I will be taking a break from it to clear my head this weekend. I will start with the timing chain and stuff on monday.
thanks

yeah sign me up for a free 347 as well. I hear ya. I hope it isnt a rod bearing. if it is then the whole thing will come back out again. I just hope I pull the timing chain cover to see one of the bolts backed off. that would be every nice.

When this happened to mine a few days ago, it was a little peice if clamp hangin form the header. Looks like it had no use, just blew of, and put a little whole in the header. So a little piece withtout the clamp was welded back on!

well guys I got the motor out now and what I found was the rod bolts had worked there way loose. glad I pulled it when I did. no spun bearing. no scaring of the crank. rod and rod cap still good. gonna have the motor gone through anyways. so that was my problem. I guess that is one hell of a coinsidence. changing the plugs and then a rod bolt comes loose. o well hope that helps. o and to get the oil pan off is almost impossible in the car. well it is possible. I just thought better to pull the motor after I had already tore it down the short block.
thanks
