Exclamation help loud ticking????

I just put the motor back together, and now it has a loud tick to it after a couple of weeks. havent gotten to drive it far due to needing a new clutch. but I checked the rocker arms they are all nice and tight. it sounds like it is coming from the top end of the motor. also sounds like it is coming from cylinder #1. so to eliminate a few things. I pulled the pushrod's and rocker arms out of cyl. 1 and unplugged the fuel injector and the plug wire from the plug.put the valve cover and everything back on but left cyl 1 pushrods and rocker arms off. and still a tick. I am gonna try to go to 3, then 5 then 7 in the same maner tonight and see if it is a valve or something. Just trying to avoid taking the heads back off. the car just got new rings and bearings, new lifters, new springs/retainers/locks. also it hasnt seen over 3500rpm's. nor does it smoke. any help would be greatly appreciated. it sounds metallic. and it is very faint at idle but when I accelerate it gets louder and faster. please I am open to about anything right now. and another thing it doesnt misfire or anything like that. it just counts em off with no hesitation.
thanks
Wesley

Have you found anything out about this yet??? I have the same problem with my car. I have been fighting it for a month now. I have pulled he heads and put in new lifters, new springs, retainers.... blah blah blah, and still have the noise. I was told by one shop that it might be my timing chain streched and is hitting the cover, or that I nicked the piston skirt. I have not checked the chian yet. that is next.

I started getting a loud ticking after a header install and it's been there since. It's normal I believe.

Yeah, I don't know how bad the tick is, if you are aware, etc, sorry if this is below you but LS1's just tend to tick. Like nipples said, especially with headers. I used to always hear mine tick, most notably when there was a wall or something solid to my left that it echoed off. Since I put the cam in it either went away, or got totally covered up, lol.

I have had my camaro for over 6 years and it has never made this ticking sound that i have. It has only just started to make the new ticking sound. And its not normal.

Forgot to add, that i have not added anything new to the car before this problem started. last mod was 4 months ago with the install of an LS6 intake.

I have the same problem after my cam/valve train and header install. I checked every thing like you have and still can't find it. My noise is coming from the same spot you described. I thought maby I have a bad lifter or some thing. Sorry I have no answer for you.

I still have the same problem. I am going to proly take the heads off tonight. but the timing chain could be an issue. I will take a look at that tonight as well. also the tick isnt like some normal valvetrain noise it is loud.
thanks

wait, before you take the heads off, check to make sure your AIR tubes are on correctly and that they are not broken at the braze/welds.

Remove your belts and run the engine. Might be the power steering or other accessory.

Well, if you only run it for a very short period of time you don't really need any of the belts.....you could just slip the main belt off the tensioner and start 'er up long enough to see if it still ticks.

The timing chain might make a noise if it were streched behond the service limit, but I don't think "ticking" describes the sound a bad chain makes. I'd look elsewhere. Are you using a mechanics stethoscope to pinpoint the source of your problem. It's an inexpensive tool that can help in this situation.

well after all of my looking and poking a proding. I am about 90% sure it is a lifter. valves come all the way up with no play in the rocker arms. checked all the pushrods and no problem there either. also got new injectors, b/c I needed them anyways, and still same tick. the head comes off tommorrow. wish me luck.
thanks

If you have a ticking noise after header install theres a leak. It is not normal to have a tick after header install.

yeah, no header leak I already checked that . and I second that it isnt normal, and means an exhaust leak.
