Hell I find about 6oz of oil in my catch can every 3k miles, and im sure its not catching it all either. That would be my main concern.
Topping off your oil should be a regular maintainance, just like getting gas. You should be checking and topping off regularly regardless of oil change interval.

I guess I am lucky then - went around 8k miles and burned less than a 1/4 quart of mobil 1 10w30!

Thats really, really good oil consumption. Im about 1/4 qt. every 3K miles. I fill up with 6 quarts so most times i go the whole 6k OCI without adding.

I would consider the 5k stuff but 15k would just make me nervous

Just cause it says its good for 15K dosnt necessarily mean thats what you should use it for. Once some oil analysis results start coming back, we'll all have a better idea of what this oil can and can not do.

BTW, the 5K stuff is conventional, the 7.5K is a blend, and the 15K is full synth.

It is Mobil 1 with added Super Syn and anti-wear additives. Doesn't pass GF-4 spec while standard Mobil 1 does.

I'm lucky if I get to 6k in a year, so I know what you mean. I have 24k miles on my 2001 Z28 I bought new in 2001... so that's right around 6k a year. And that's counting the first couple of years when it was my daily driver. Now I'm putting less than 5k miles a year on it and it only comes out of the garage on sunny days.

Hey Tranzor,
Hasn't Amsoil been doing similar stuff for years. High mileage oil with a good filter that you change between oil changes?

Yes, Amsoil's basic XL synthetic formula is a standard 7500 mile/6 month interval. The Series 2000 formula (0w30 or 20w50) is a 1 year interval/35,000 mile, whichever comes first.

The oil filters they use have a large filtering media, so they trap quite a bit of dirt... their filters are rated as 12.5k mile/6 month interval filters. But I would always change the filter whenever changing the oil... so with mine, I change my oil and the filter every 6 months. I use Amsoil XL 10w30 (5w30 in the winter) and an Amsoil SDF32 filter.

If you were using the Series 2000 0w30, I'd go with 1 year intervals (I doubt any of us drive 35k miles in less than a year's time) and change the oil filter at that time, unless you go over 12k miles before a year is up.

Yeah, thats like me. I drive about 35K a year. We could probably shoot out for the highest milage LS1. Although, ill probably replace the engine via normal modding progression before it craps out on me (hopefully)
