opinions on mobils new oils
I noticed on a commercial that mobil has some
new long life oils that are supposed to last 5k,10k,and
even 15k miles.I always heard that the longer oil
is left in the crankcase that it will eventually
turn acidic and gum up.What's your opinion?

Thats what happens when you leave non-synthetics in too long. Synthetic do not break down the same way regular oil will, atleast not as quickly. It has detergent and anti wear additives to keep it from sludging up. Mobil1 EP oils are too new for any long term tests to have been conducted (privately, anyway) so keep posted. Until then, try GC or M1 0w40, or amsoil, or RP or whatever your favorite synthetic happens to be.

If you read the bottom of the oil, it says only in perfect conditions. I can add this though, i had royal purple for the longest time, changed to mobil one, and the oil pressure went up some.

This new oil is better, it's got a better additive package in it, so even if you don't leave it in for 15k, it should do a better job than regular M1. I like the fact that this new M1 EP comes in 10w40, which is a great choice for the LS1.
I'll still continue using GC 0w30 though, it's worked very well for me and until I can no longer buy it, it'll be my only choice.

The Cummins in the Dodge will continue to get Mobil 5w40 truck and SUV.
Patman is the new 5w40 truck/SUV oil any better than Delvac 1 or is it the same?

Dave, the truck and SUV formula is identical to Delvac 1, which is proven to be one of Mobil 1's best oils! It is a tad too thick for the LS1 though, except for those who do a lot of road racing and/or see very high oil temps a lot (over 250F)
