Default ls1 crank

ok guys i see alot of plp saying tha the ls1 crank can take alot of power, however what is the main difference bettween and ls1 crank that makes it so strong and lets say a crank from a stock gm small block of lets say 10 years ago or early 90's desing?? i mean is it made out of stronger stuff or just different design casue i though iron was iron and all stock cranks are made out of iron well most of them.

LS1 is nodular iron vs. the cast Iron of older engines.
There is a lot of metalurgy lingo involved in the way the graphite is present in the nodular iron which gives it a higher shear strength.

Ford Motorsports always sold a nodular iron crank for their engines instead of a forged version.

Also the machine work that is done on the LS1 style cranks is very nicely done, radius and all, compaired to 10 years ago.
