Default Best way to build a 427?

What is everyones favorable way of building a 427 motor? The target SCR for this motor will be 8.5:1 with 66cc heads.

I've always thought the right way to do it is to get a C5R block, but that is going to cost 6k up front, plus 3k-4k for the rotating assembly.

I've also read multiple threads talking about dropping sleves, leaking coolant, etc, which would really **** me off, nothing like having a piece of **** 427ci motor with less than 100 miles on it and wishing you had gone C5R.

Then there is the new LS2/7 blocks, will they take 4.125 bore?

C5R? Darton Sleves? Other?

I would check into an LS2 block with the resleeve. The resleeves on those blocks are not in contact with coolant so there shouldn't be all the issues that were happening with the resleeved ls1/ls6 blocks. You could save a couple thousand going that route. The pistons and head cc will determine the compression. First buy a set of heads. CC the chambers to verify accurate volume then order the pistons up.

Get a Darton block from Steve at RED and you'll be fine. I believe he is working with the LS2 blocks now, also. But, whichever, get it from him. No one has more knowledge or experience with sleeving blocks.

Ok, sounds like the extra 3k is not worth it for C5-R unless I'm after bling bling.

I agree going with the darton setup, here at HPE we build the darton motors as does MTI. While your at it you could always just go with a 4.155 bore for a 434cid. Good luck on your setup
