I'm not saying I'm definitely going with it. I'm just trying to find out all I can about all my options before I make a decision. I just want to make all this worth the money I'm going to put into it. After going through all this hassle and spending a bunch of money, I don't know want to end up just back at the stock block. If possible I would like to do something worthwhile while the engine is out if it is within my budget.

Just remember, there are a lot of odds and ends that will need to go in when doing this.

Yea, that's what I'm trying to find out. I don't want just a "yea that will work". I'm looking for the "well, if you get a 383 rotating aseembly you'll need this and this and this also". All input is welcome. I just looked up a rotating 383 Eagle assembly from Jeg's which is very reasonably priced at 2299. What else would I need for that IF i did go that route?

Here is my list of crap I had to get for my 408, it adds up fast and it doesn't include everything i wanted...

motor 3750
heads 2100
cam 350
chain& retainer cups 65
ARP HSK 225
gaskets 34
tune 500
injectors 315
fuel pump 115
lifters 180
clutch 835
prods 109
TOTAL 8578

Most parts were new, some used. This does not include goodies that i'll need like:
bmr k 400
kooks 850
true duals 400
rear 2500
TOTAL 4150
Grand total, $12,728

Like i said, look into a 370, use your stock parts, then when you have more cash, get a nice h/c package, then get everything else to support the power. A nice breathing 370 will make 450-500rwhp.

I'm thinking I may just go with a 383 rotating assembly, bore the block out, resleeve, and keep with the stock heads for now. I KNOW the stock heads will be restrictive as hell but it opens me up for much more gain when I'll have the money to do it in the future. Right now to put in/on the 383 I have:

New:
LS6 intake
Ported TB
Double Roller chain and Gears
LS6 ported oil pump
TR224 cam
Comp 918's w/ Ti retainers

... and i also have some GM Motive 3.73 Gears to put in ...

I know the 383 won't be optimized, but it should put out some decent power and it def won't HURT me to get it. I have a place that can hone and resleeve the block for me and I can get an Eagle stroker kit from Jeg's for $2299. Any comments/concerns/rants to contribute?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but after what happened from the botched cam swap are you sure you want to be doing engine assembly??

Got a set of micrometers, runout gauge, angle-torque meter, super-accurate torque wrench, etc? Nice super clean room and workbench to keep dust particles from getting into the engine during assembly?

I've built SBCs since 1988 and I wouldn't build an LS1 bottom-end. Much more cost effective to buy a pre-built shortblock from a reputable shop.

I'm not gonna be assembling it. I have a shop that's going to do it.
