I would run them, because I believe in them.
Stock springs are beehive, how many poeple run FI on stock motors? 918's were designed in conjunction with XE-R lobes.
Pick the biggest XE-R cam on Comp site and look up their matched springs. They are 918's.
I would pick the lightest (affordable) valvetrain, ie: LS6 valves, 918 springs, titanium retainers. This will have better harmonics than a heavy dual spring, steel valves IMO.

does Comp make a 918 spring kit, with the ti retainers, new locks etc.?
I've been looking, haven't seen one offered....

Brian,

Besides the fact that you think the 918s will withstand xe-r ramps, do you feel there is a benefit to running this single spring?

Thanks.

XR281HR (228/230 Dura.) (.571/.573 I/E lift) 112 degree LSA.
Comp Springs 313# rate, 7.4" Chromemoly Pushrods.

I have the similar required lift numbers. All is good at 7200rpm. I used my stock rockers, but as long as you get a good quality aftermarket, don't get the adjustable type. It will add weight to your valvetrain, something you don't want. You can see, I grabbed the above from my signiture, sorry no part #'s on short notice! The Z06 stock spring is 271# rate, the new springs are alittle stiffer, taller and are also beehive design springs. The pushrods are a definite in the need to have column, lol! No chances there with a NASCAR quality. I wish I used the titanium retainers I bought for their light weight, but I was desperate to get them installed, because that damn More tool didn't like the titanium retainers shape. The retainer and spring kept popping out of it while being compressed, as the tool wears out on its maiden voyage, a one time user for the cash it costs. The stock retainers and new springs stay in the tool, so I reused them. Good Luck finding some springs.

Absolutely.....valvetrain weight. Valvetrain weight is what decides how much spring pressure it takes to control a cam. The less the weight, the less spring pressure you can use to control the ramp. Also, if you get a new rocker assembly..as long as it's a balanced rocker..the valvetrain doesn't see the weight. The Comp promags are a balanced assembly.
