Default What to do with an LS1 while the motor is out

Hey guys. My uncle is building a hot rod with a drivetrain from a 2002 Trans Am. The car had ~175 miles on it when it was rolled. He bought the powertrain complete from the motor to the rear end. My question is while the LS1 is out of the car what should he go ahead and replace? He is not planning on making much more than the stock power. The car is only going to weigh ~2400 pounds. I suggested replacing the rod bolts while he had it out. Anything else that is relatively weak and could be strengthened for durability? He has a lot of experience with SBC but has never dealt with an LS1 - it is going to be a wicked ride!

as long as he's not going to rev to the moon or spray it the motor should be good as is.the rod bolts in the 2002 were stronger than the earlier years due to changes in the manufacturing process of the bolts.i'd say put some headers on it,port the TB and bolt that puppy in there.at 2400lbs. that thing will be scary!!

Oil pump, but as long as the oil pump is out why not do a cam swap. Since you are a doing a cam swap with the springs might as well put some 5.3 heads on and since the intake is off swap in a LS6 intake.

its a slippery slope.

it's a 2002.it already has a ls6 intake.and the stock oil pump should be fine with 175 miles on the motor.

I was not aware the rod bolts on the 02s were different. The more I learn about these motors the happier I am that I have an 02! The car he is building is going to be really cool - as he progresses I will share some photos.
