you mean clean the inside of the cylinder walls and the tops of the pistons? How do you clean that with a plastic scraper, what kind of plastic scraper? What exctly are you scraping off, carbon deposits? Could someone elaborate more on this...

Also, someone is saying on another thread than an LS6 oil pump is the same exact thing as an LS1 oil pump?

I just bought heads and cam too and possibly attempting it myself w/help of local friend...not sure though...sounds scary!

cleaning the tops of the pistons is not worth it IMO. the plastic scraper idea is to use a plastic ice scraper (for windshields) to remove the old GASKET material. the LS6 oil pumps that you buy from ls1 shops has been cleaned of all its casting debris and smoothed for better flow. this is what is referred to as a "ported ls6 oil pump". i dont know the difference between the two, but i'm pretty certain the ls1 is inferior in some way. they are so cheap, that there is really no reason not to swap it out, ESPECIALLY if you are replacing the timing set. which is also very cheap (30$ for LS2 timing chain that works on stock sprockets but is stronger).

remember that there are 2 ground wires hooked to the rear of the drivers side head. if you unbolt the head, you can slide it forward a bit, then get to the grounds easier. be carefull not to break them, and its probably a good idea to break them loose with the head still in place. the passenger side head has a bracket holding a wire loom. you can open the wire loom and pull the wire out of it, no need to unbolt.
