Default at what point?

I would like to try to find out why ls1's tick. Especially the cammed ones. No one seems to know why. At what point is the base cirlcle of aftermarket cams small enough to let the stock lifter or stock replacement lifters go down too far in the lifter hole. Morel lifters are supposed to prevent this by the raised oil ring on the lifter. So what is the base cirlcle that we are looking for that this is needed?
