Thank all of you for your input. As for Rogers performance, I welcome whatever you or anyone else has to say about this. The point here is to find The one cause or many of the causes of the noisy valvetrains people are constantly bugged with.

What lifter noise do these motors have? All I ever hear is piston slap, especially on the 5.3L/6.0L engines. Go through a drive-thru and you'll hear the sound reflecting off the building.
Stock preload one the ones I measure have been around .060" BTW. I've set them to as little as .012" to as much as .090" with minimal noise results.
