This came out of my friends 99 FRC during an oil change. Please help us figure out what it is. Yes, the engine is probably toast.

That's a relief! I was feeling bad because I just helped him swap in an LS6 intake and thought that maybe I allowed some dirt or sand to get in the intake ports on one of the heads. We were very careful and even vacuumed all the dirt away... What's a good price for a set of stock roller rockers?

naw not your fault nick. heck, i just changed the spark plugs in my car and the next time I turned the motor over it developed a loud tick. ended up being rod bolt had come loose. just coincidence. but yeah find the rocker or rocker arms that are affected and change them out you should be find. it is all part of the modding game.

has anyone ever had a problem with these needle bearings getting caught in a precarious part of the motor and causing damage? Mine have a little play in them and I"m just waiting for them to fail one day, and I'm a little worried! I'm sure running 400 lbs open seat pressure isn't easy on them.

Thanks for the advice! You guys were all right on the money. Went over to his house last night, popped both valve covers and found the bad rocker on the passenger side. Bearing retainer was off and sitting in the head. A bunch more needle bearings were also scattered around the top of the head. Used a magnet and got them all out. Dumped some cheap dino oil in both heads and let it run out. Replaced the roller rockers with a set he got for a hundred dollars with 2K miles on them. Fished a magnet around in the pan and found one more needle bearing and replaced the oil and filter. Fired the car up and it seems to be running great. Again, thanks.
