I think p/v will be tight, degree the cam and use a dial indicator to check clearance on the intake 8-12 * ATDC.

It won't clear. I took .040 off of my Stock heads with 230 and 575 lift on 110 LSA and only had .030 clearance on intake and .050 on exhaust! You will have to flycut or you will end up replacing every valve in your head!

Probably will depend alot on how aggressive the lobe is. XER...no way. Some other 'lazy' lobes might.

My cam has a pretty agressive Cam Motion 230/.595" intake lobe on a 111 icl and it's about right on the recommended .080" clearance and that was on an unmilled head with a 2.02 valve.

It's going to be tight....

Jordan....going to make it to Memphis in a couple weeks?

We could tell all you want to know, but the problem is the variances of the LSx's when it comes to how much the piston comes out of the hole. I've seen on this board anywhere from .003 - .010. If you don't measure and check it yourself, you are taking a big gamble (IMHO).

Of course there is much more to this than a simple yes or no, but here's where I'm at.

5.3 heads with 2.02"/1.575" valves (take .030" of valve drop from LS1) F14 cam (232/234 .598/.598 112-0)

I've been told to mill no more than .005" -.010" off the heads are boom boom will likely happen with .040" or possibly even a .050" gasket.

So .010" plus the .030" for smaller chamber = .040" max.

Of course you could change your cam timing or flycut?

I'm going to mill about .007" from the heads and clay the pistons with no gaskets to determine if I can use a .040" gasket to minimze squish area. You need to either use solid lifters or measure pushrod travel on a non pressurized lifter to get relevent data from clay.

Sheets I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have AS 5.3 heads with 2.02 valves and am in the process of installing a CC 228/230 .588/.591 112+2 and only have .042 P/V clearance and that is with no milling. I will say that my intakes are really hung out on the edge of the valve seats.

Well I got my numbers from Futral and I'm using his cam.

"Stock end w\61.37 chamber .041" gasket = 11.43 CR .054" gasket =11.05 CR
You can use the .041" and be ok,just check the clearance. Or use a .054"
gasket and mill approx .010" to get 11.1-11.2"

I know he's done one or two of the same set up so I'm thinking he knows something?

What gasket did you use?

I may go only .005" and then I still have the .050" gasket to help out if needed. I think I'd rater have a little more chamber and tighter squish than the reverse...only talking a cc or so.

sheets,I don't see how that's gonna fit or at the very least have any leeway for an over rev or valve float. Have you done a valve drop? I guess you are just ordering the cam so it hasn't been clayed or had p/v checked. I am claying today just to verify the .042 at 8* ATDC. I am also getting notches cut if I can ever get the guy over to my house.

Working with Futral on the setup. I ordered the cam pakage from him and asked him what to do with the 5.3 heads. Accordingly, he told me the valve drop on the 5.3 is .030 from the LS1 head. Plenty of people are running heads milled .030".

I hate to say "so and so said...", but Alan Futral and Kip did say I could mill the 5.3 head with 2.02" intkes no more than .010"

I admit I'm getting a little nervous now though. Especially the way my day went yesterday (Taxes) it seems like the cycle of good times is swinging the other way

So, I'm thinking I'll just shave off a few thousandths for cleaning and making sure they're true and then I can clay and decide which gasket.

Are you guys saying that you don't think an F14 will even clear a 2.02" valave on a 5.3 head?
