Default Dangerous to race untuned?

Hey guys - I have a "Club Race Day at Norwalk" coming up and lots of parts to install before then. I am installing an MTI C1 cam (222/222 .563/.563 on a 112), Comp 918s, TR pushrods, an ASP underdrive pulley, Hooker LTs, and ORY. My question is I do not think I will have time to get the computer tuned - am I running a greater risk of breaking something with it not being tuned? I know I will not be getting the most out of the car but is it going to hurt anything running it untuned? I absolutely will be getting it tuned but I am not sure if I can get it done that fast. Should I pass on racing it until the tune? I am getting different opinions from a lot of club members.

with this cam I think you have no problems pal , but the diffrent in performance will be noticable without tuning..

good luck.....

get scheduled for the tune and get the install done the day before! you should be able to swap cams in a day if you've never done it before. what the hell are you posting for?! start wrenching!

do you live close to any speed shops? which one were you planning on going to for the tune?

There is a local guy that will tune it for me - Billiumss on this board. He tunes almost all of the LS1s in my area. Not really a problem for him to drop a base tune in it - problem is the dyno time and my work schedule. I am planning on doing all of the wrenching this weekend.

a base tune should have it very driveable...the a/f situation is about the only thing i would be worried about and that could be pretty far off *shrug*

My friend has been running the MTI C1 untuned for 10k+ miles and dyno'd at 376hp/364tq untuned with all the bolt ons, we've gone to the track multiple times. I don't think you'll have any problem with it being untuned.

You don't have to put it on a dyno to get the AFR close. The 02s will tell you if you are way out of whack.

I've had that cam over year without a tune and it's fine. I'm debating the merits myself right now since I got heads. I've probably got 5k on it and a few passes and a few dyno's. Great track/4-5th gear Freeway cam you got there.
Have a good time.

Thanks for all the replys - I think the answer is tune it if I can but run it even if I don't!
