Question Burning smell

Im looking at a 2001 trans am with 37k miles on it. the other day i test drove it and the guy let me stomp on it. it has a 6speed witch im used to driveing but when i got to the next red light i got a wiff of some buring i dunno if thats normal for an ls1 after revving it up or would that be the clutch if i wasnt driving right.or does it just sound like a bad car. also 3rd gear and higher were hard to find had to wiggle shifter around to get it in
plz help

3rd gear is a bitch with the stock shifter...much nicer with a short stick...my guess would also be clutch stink...can you describe the burning smell a little better?

that definitely sounds like clutch to me...and yes a pro 5.0 shifter would help it BIG time...i can't miss 3rd even if i try...(obviously i can but it is really hard to miss it )

well depending on how well you drive...it is very easy to burn the clutch like that if you aren't used to driving stick...but if you were just in gear coasting and then floored it and let off...put in nuetral and stopped and you smelled it...that is a bad clutch

yup clutch shouldn't be bad with only 37k miles if it is relativly a stock car (no cam, heads, or forced induction) it was most likely your driving (no offense) sounds like a good car if price is right...you'll love the ls1 for sure
