Default XER 224 vs. TSP 231/237

I currently have a Comp Cams 224/224 .581/581 112lsa. Will a TSP 231/237 cam be a good upgrade? If so, how much of a RWHP gain will I get? Will it clear my heads with 2.02/1.60 valves?

Thanks in advance,
Ever

I'd say it's more like 10-15. 20 perhaps. All up top.
I'd look into an Futral F13 instead.

I suggest the Futral F13 so that you can keep some low end tq, while attaining more peak power.

I wouldn't mind getting a different cam other than the TSP 231/237. I am basically trading cams. So it ain't going to cost me anything but labor to swap them out. Considering the fact that the cam is free;would it be worth it to do? I am basically looking for a little more rwhp to get me into the 11's. I am only .2's away.

What kinda gear you runnin? If you have 3.42-3.73's I'd look into the F13. If you have 4.10's I'd say go ahead with the TSP231/237.

I currently have 3.42's but am going to install 4.10 this Monday. Do you think the TSP cam and the gears will get me into the 11's?

Also will I gain HP/TQ with the 224 tune? Or will I have to get it re-tuned? Will my TQ #'s go down from my current #'s?

With the hp and tq numbers in your sig, I don't know why you're not already in the 11's. What heads do you have on there?
For comparo sake. with the TSP 231/237, my car used to put down (all thru a 9" with 4.11's) 390/360 on stock heads, 425/387 on the current head/cam setup, and now 458/403 with theh 90/90 and QTP LT's. The 425/387 combo was good for 11.8's, in very, very hot/humid weather on drag radials.
Drag racing is more about peak hp, so in theory, yes, the TSP cam will/should get you in the 11's.

I'm close to running 11's. I run consistent 12.3's all day. I think my stock gears are keeping me from hitting 11's. Also keep in mind I run at an elevation of 4000ft with an average DA of 7500ft. I want 11's!

Oh yeah. The heads are stock port and polished 241's with 2.02/1.60 Ferrea valves. It was dyno tuned at TSP last year.

While I'm at it. Will a cut-out help or hurt me at the track? I have Hoker LT's with an off-road y-pipe and a Loudmouth exhaust.

The TSP 231 should be good for 5-10rwhp up top over the XER 224. From previous graphs i've seen, a TR224 grind produced better lowend and midrange power than the 231/237 all the way to 5000rpms. The TSP grind then proceeded to pull away from the 224. Your swap to 4.10s provided you have traction should net you 11's with your current cam, but since your swapping for free you might as well go with the larger cam.

Before you swap consider that for best performance your more than likely going to have a tuner tweak your AF-Ratio for the new cam. Best of luck!

I'll be running on Weld Prostars(15x3.5/15x10) this time around with 26x11.5/15 ET Streets compared to before TTII's(17x9.5/17x11) with 315/35/17 Nitto Drag Radials. So traction shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to run with the gears first and see if that helps before I install the cam. Should I try the cut-out?

Yup, get the cutout. It'll help. I ran the TSP 231/237 for 3 months on my old Formula. If I could do it again I wouldn't have gone with that cam. Low end tq sucks so bad and the hp up top pulls hard, but F13's dyno waaaay better.

If all you want is 11's...just get some gears and bam. If you're desperate to get rid of that 224, go FMS all the way. The TSP 231, Torquer, 235/240, MS3 all seem to disappoint on the dyno.

Gears are going in this week. I'll give them a try at the track and hope for 11's. What are the specs on the Futral F13? What are the average gains with a cut-out?

Thanks for all the help.

Well I got the specs on FM13 (230"/232" .595"/.585" 112LSA). Search function works. What about the cut-out?
