Ford 351 rods in an LS1?
Here's the story:
My friend just picked up his trans am the other day. This known shop in Broomfield, CO put in a 425 LS1 after a bad cam install on his stock engine. So he goes to pick it and is bs'ing with them for a little bit about LS1's ect. and they told him that when they were first experimenting with LS1's they used the connecting rods out of Ford 351 (Cleveland/Windsor I dunno) engines. They told him they basically 99.9% fit and match up to stroke it out. Just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this. They obviously don't use them now but this was when the LS1 first came out and there were no aftermarket parts yet. They even talked about Honda cams but my friend didn't remember all the details.

The cleveland rod is 5.780 with a big end width .8315, the windsor rod is 5.956 with a big end width of the same. The LS1 is of course 6.098 with a big end width of .940 or so. I wouldnt even consider it either way on rod choice on any LS1 combo.

That't what my friend told me they were saying. I guess they just started playing with parts on LS1's when they were brand new. Not sure what the hell they would be doing with Honda cams either.... I'll ask him again to see if he they meant the Ford 351 rods. If anything I could probably call them. I thought he was nuts when he told me that.

They work perfect in an LS1...only thing is, there is no advantage to running a shorter rod.On the other hand the Eagle H beam CRS6125B3D is what I use in alot of LS1 build up's. it's a 351W rod, but is also a perfect fit in LS1's and all LS1 venders (speed inc,cnc-motorsports,combination etc..) all sell the 6125b3d as an LS1 rod.So to answer your question, yes they will work, but only if it's 6.100" or larger will it have any advantage.
