Question oil pump?

i just put on a 3600 stall into my 2000 T/A

the thing moves!

but, i'm worried about my oil pump..

oil pressure seems to be very high. the gauge on my instrument cluster doesn't go past '80', whatever 80 signifies. when i'm at 80mph for example, the gauge reads, roughly, '60'. if i punch it from there, the needle goes very near '80', at the end of the gauge...

will the oil pump blow, or can it handle this? or would i be safer at getting a stronger oil pump? if so, which oil pump would you guys recommend?

thanks.

The units are PSI pounds per square inch. Mine stays at 60 when cruising. I've never watched when I really rev it high. I wouldn't worry about the oil pump blowing, those things are pretty strong.

yep, i just experimented a little..

its at 60 psi pretty much whenever im cruising, at any speed
40 psi when stopped/parked
and goes to roughly 80 psi at any decent amount of pressure on the gas pedal

i just do not want to deal with the pump blowing up and cleaning up oil everywhere, and risking my engine, etc..

you sure it'll hold up? cause i'll happily go WOT! (i haven't yet)

It's not the throttle opening that drives the pump, but engine rpm. The pump is not going to blow up, trust me. It's good to have a lot of oil presure. Some race engines run 120 psi.
