Can someone please help?
Today I was messing around under the hood cleaning and whatnot and I came across some oil on the plug wire for the cylinder that is nearest to the firewall on the drivers side. So I was looking around to see where it came from and i noticed this opening in the valve cover. It was right on the edge of valve cover next to the firewall on the drivers side. I remember when I swapped my pushrods out that there was a rubber grommet/bushing thing with a bolt and a washer in it and it plugged the hole. Well now its gone and I dont know where it went and I dont konw how long I have been driving with it like this. Oil pressure is the same and the car runs normally. Could someone please tell me what this thing is? If someone has access to a diagram of that valve cover and its components I can tell you what part it is. I have a 98 z28. Please help me im freaking out. Thanks.

Sounds like your missing one of your rocker cover hold down bolts and grommet. I have a 97 LS1 and my rocker cover bolts are just like what you describe. The hole is larger to accomidate the grommet. You could take out one of your other rocker cover bolts and grommet and you'll see what I mean. Hope this helps.

This is different than a normal valve cover bolt. The rubber piece was probably an inch or inch and a half across. It isnt on the perimiter but on top of the valve cover. Ill try and get a diagram or something up.
Ok I found a picture. Go here...http://www.motorplace.com/flow-pcx/p...1115518463711# and then click on valve cover gasket and then gasket, valve cover 98 L (the word image by that description) and it is #6. Looks like the spot for the filler neck on the passenger side.
You are probably need in item #273 in the pic. GM part #12557672, list price $4.15. Item #274 is a not serviced separately part, but comes with item #273 when you buy it. It is part of the PCV system.
