Default 241 Head Swap Questions?

I have a 99 Formula. From what i understand it has 853 castings and supposedly the 241's flow better.

What else is necessary to do this head swap, and is it worth it? Someone told me the valve covers were different or where the coil packs mount was different.

Thanks for any help.

Valve covers are only different on the '98s... '99 and up heads have the same center bolts.

It is not worth the effort of trading 853s for 241s, the difference is minimal at best. Head swaps are only worthwhile if you're stepping up to a set of ported heads.

Hi Folks
I would go with Ported 243 heads (LS6) or get the 241 ported. Why go thru all the effort for stock heads - make it worth while.

That was the other thing. I figured i could have the 241's ported and polished and that would make it more worthwhile, but then again thats more $, something im low on right now.

The only other mod im looking at right now is LT headers and true duals. I guess its safe to say ill get a greater gain from the headers, and until i do a cam just hold off on touching my heads? Whaddya guys think?

yah dont bother swapping stock for stock...more time/effort then its worth for the couple of cfm you gain. Cam only is a great way to go in ls1's

Also, ported heads don't automatically mean you'll have the mega power numbers that you think they'll gain. If you don't have a camshaft that takes advantage of the extra flow, then the hp per $ ratio goes down. If you have a cam with for example .551 of lift, then ported heads aren't the magic bullet. But if the cam has a lift of .600... then you're getting better use out of your investment. Food for thought.
