Default what happened to my motor?

just got a fully assembled 427 shortblock from a popular ls1 company. my mechanic installed it and it worked great. after about 300 miles of driving the oil that had been at about 20-30psi at idle dropped to nothing and i turned the car off right away. when we opened up the car the crank had some pretty good scarring and the rods and pistons were shot along with the main barrings. the oil pump was fine with No signs of shiny blue surfaces caused by heat. the o-ring on the oil pump was fine too. the cam had no scarring or any signs of damage. the cylinder walls will be fixed with some minor honing (spelling?). the odd thing to me is that the front six rods bearings and channels on the crank are where the damage is. the back 2 seem unharmed. what do you guys thinnk happened?

Ewww, sorry to hear about your situation there. Nothing really concrete comes to mind, only the typical things such as some metal shavings left in the motor and getting in the crank oil holes (or any oil port I guess) since it seems to be bottom end damage. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Wow I love how these companies stand by their product. Im sure you ran the motor on 1 qt of oil just to make your motor blow up, come on fess up.

Damn that sucks. How come you don't just get the crank turned down and use oversized bearings on the mains. You can use a rod with a 2.00" journal on the crank. I am using an offset 2.00" journal on my lunati crank. It sounds to me like incorrect bearing clearances caused the problems. Good luck getting things resolved.

Did you get a build sheet with the motor, with bearing clearances listed? I'd be curious to know what rod & main clearances they used. If you don't have one, it's probably too late to call and ask, as they'd probably just "make one up".

Sorry to hear about your motor. Hope you get it worked out. BTW I found it pretty humorous that you took care to avoid mentioning the company.
just got a fully assembled 427 shortblock from a popular ls1 company.
Then I look just a bit below in your signature to see it spelled out in there.

Anyway good luck!

Check the inside of your oil pump. Someone installed mine wrong where it was hitting the crankshaft! Shavings were EVERYWHERE!!!!! Ruined the bearings, but the crank is ok.
