***Edit***

I may be using a different tool from what most use. I got the tool from ThunderRacing

I am going to the garage to take some pics...

as far as i know you need a scrap set of heads with the valve seats REMOVED and the cutting tool takes the place of the seats. thats probably why you don't think you have the room. heres a nice wright up i found.

http://www.forcefedhighperformance.com/tech_Isky.htm

If anyone else is interested, i have a second set of 98 heads i'm not going to use, and eventualy was going to do this with, i can cut you off a cylinder and you can use that.

also i noticed you said this...

2-1/4 is 2.25, not 2.06...

I wonder if there's any scrap heads floating around that can be borrowed for this? (I might be performing that procedure myslef.)

Yes you are right!!!

I just got off the phone with Tony (AFR) and he explained the whole ordeal to me... I have a set of LS1 241 heads and I am going to get the valve seats mahined out so the tool will sit up in the head.

Thanks, Tony and everyone else that posted

You need to set the piston at TDC with a dial indicator. Also the piston rocks back and forth on the rod pin. FWIW the guy that did my notching used 1/4 of a head. That way he didn't have to keep moving the cutters. Surprisingly he never thought of using tape to keep the filings out of the cylinders, or using a feeler gauge to set the depth of the collar.

I don't know if this is allowed here, but I have an 853 head cut for the tools and a set of Isky cutters and shafts I can rent and maybe we can work something out. If you are interested give me a PM. I just did this on my 99 C5.

When you rent the tool, does it come with two cutters? One for the intake and one for the exhaust?

The piston needs to be top dead center and you just need to remove the valve seats from an old head. I had to double up the gaskets to get enought clearance for the tool to fit properly. Make sure you use a dial caliper to measure the length of the cut to keep them the same depth. You will see what I mean once you cut a couple.

Force Fed HP has a write on this site that shows you exactly how to do it. Use the dial indicator to get TDC, but use a feeler gauge between the cutter collar and where the valve seals sits to get the correct depth. This is not exact science so there will probably be .010-.015 differences in notch depth.
