The bird is very wicked, screw convinsing people its a firebird, tell them its a Screaming banshy
Which is what I think GM wanted to call the birds before they settled on Firebird

Technically an LS1 is a 5.7 liter all aluminum gen III V8. The other gen III motors all have their own designations.
The designations are
LS1
LS6
LR4 (4.8L)
LM4, LM7, L59 (5.3L)
LQ4 (6.0 w/325 hp)
LQ9 (6.0 w/377 hp)
The designations are
LS1
LS6
LR4 (4.8L)
LM4, LM7, L59 (5.3L)
LQ4 (6.0 w/325 hp)
LQ9 (6.0 w/377 hp)

Or we could just to like we use to do with the SBC and just call it what the cubes came out to be, 346 (5.7L), 402, 408 (6.6L?), 427 (7L)
I think thats what the 4 cyl. guys do to.

So what is a F body that came with a LS6 block from the factory but a LS1 cam, LS1 heads etc.?
I would still say it was a LS1 with a LS6 block.
So the block method dosen't always work.
Now if you changed to a LS6 head, LS6 cam then it would be a LS6.
I say it is a LS1 forever, and the only way it isn't a LS1 is if you do a LS6 block, with 243 castings and whatever cam.
Or if you did a 6.0 iron or LS2 block with whatever parts.
This topic is why the name LSx came around.
For those who dont really have a LS1, or a LS6, or a 6.0 but a combo of them.

I say just call it an ls1 for the most part.
It's like calling all the car's f-body's but if you want to get more specifiec you have camaro , firebird, ws6, z28,ss.
In the end they are all Gen 3 motors.
I plan on getting 6.6L decals to put on my hood behind the Ram Air decals, once I put the 408 in it. Only reason for this is because around 78ish pontiac put 6.6L on some of the cars. I just doing it for that nostalgic thing. Since they did it back then it makes it kind lagit.
