I did not replace my oil pump. However, I did change the oil pump o-ring. The stock pushrods are weak and will bend. Two of mine were bent and I never missed a shift. I would get hardened pushrods. The pump is up to you but I would at least get a new o-ring.

While on topic, can you advise if an LS6 would be REQUIRED for a 2002 T/A Firehawk w/224 cam. I was told that the 2002 LS1 oil pumps should be more than adequate for a baby cam.
Thoughts please, and those LS6 oil pumps are on backorder at some locations.
Am I just wasting money?

BTW - I am being sarcastic. I have a 98 and put 66K miles on my original oil pump with zero problems. Took it apart ported and shimmed it then only saw a slight increase. I bought a LS6 pump for my new setup and could not find any discernible difference between the two when compared side by side except the LS6 had a slightly stiffer spring which I attributed to mild fatigue on the old pump.

Honestly I don't know what the difference in the pumps is. All I know is that enough people whose judgement and experience I trust are in agreement on the subject.

I changed my oil pump out when I did my cam swap. I went with futarl's LS6 ported pump that only cost $135 shipped. B ut I didnt change my chain because it didn't have any play. Also you should set your rev higher because you are waisting your money when you are not going to the full power of the cam.
