H/C Upgrade - Do I need a Double Roller Timing Chain
I recently purchased the following mods:
Hello:
I just recently purchased the following mods for my 02Z06:
AFR 205 Heads (Milled for 11:1 Compression Ratio)
G5X-2 112 Cam (With all of the Retainers, Pushrods, etc)
Comp 921 Springs
LG Long Tube Headers with Random Tech Cats
Vararam Intake
ASP Underdrive Pulley
Comp R Lifters
Thermostat
Injectors
I have not put these yet (And it will get tuned). I also have a Corsa Titanium Exhaust.
Do I need to install a Double Roller Timing Chain (If so, what kind - I was considering the Rollmaster Double Roller Timing Chain)? Or is it better to leave the stock chain in it? I do not race or drag the car, just want to be sure it is reliable.
With a double roller timing chain, are there timing issues?
For guys that have H/C Upgrades - Do you have a double roller timing chain? I need advice from the experts on this forum.
Most builders will offer replacement chains with their blocks unless specified otherwise.
Personally i think doubles are too tight and could cause front cam bearing wear (Although I've not seen a study on this).
Also, shimming the pump for clearance is a PIA, and with a single you do not have to replace crank sprocket either (unless damaged)
As far as toughness, I've seen doubles break and singles, but in either case, they are far between.
BTW are you going to flycut your pistons???

I am not fly cutting the pistons. My AFR 205 are being milled to 61cc. Then I have a .045 gasket. I purchased from LG and they told me that I will be fine and will not have any clearance issues. Now if I wanted to run the mill to 59cc, then I would have to fly cut.
Even at 61cc I can still run 11:1 compression.
