Default LSX on vette install questions

The MAP sensor seems to hit the firewall when i'm trying to install the FAST. How have you guys addressed this issue?

Also, I did not take the manifold apart as the instructions say...is this necessary?

Is there any way of fitting the MAP in a bit more snug? It seems pretty flimsy.

You will need to hold the front of the intake up at a 30-45 degree angle and it will slide under the cowl and onto the locator pins.

The MAP sensor didn't give me a clearance problem. My heads were milled .030" and I used a .040" cometic gasket, but I don't know if that .042" extra made a difference. I did remove the weather stripping hold down that goes through the cowl right above it. And yes, it is pretty flimsy, but I haven't had any vaccum issues. I've been thinking of sealing it with some RTV, but I haven't had to yet. Did you use the valley cover bolts that were supplied with the manifold?

How on earth do you get the small vacuum hose attached to the back of the manifold? I have the manifold on and bolted down now.

And on page 5, step 6, it says...'Using (3) M6 hex nuts provided, position to manifold pockets. Apply a dab of thread lock to M6 bolts and tighten to (50in/lbs).' I dont see where they are talking about?

Greg, you should be able to reach back there and push the vacuum line on to the manifold, mine was a piece of cake.

I hear you on that "step 6" part, I put mine on tonight and I don't know what the heck that step is referring to . Instructions kinda suck leaving out some TQ specs and steps.

I think you can get away without taking the manifold apart like the instructions say to. I took mine apart tonight before installing and all it did was pull some of the seal up. I put dabs of silicone on the edges of all the seal cross pieces to make sure it doesn't leak. I guess it's not a bad idea to make sure the seal is ok, but kinda a PITA too...

Attaching the vacuum hose was tough, it barely reaches on my 2004.

My manifold touches the cowl (?) plastic. I don't expect a problem.

My MAP sensor touches the firewall. Next time I have it off, I will remove some material off the plug for safety. Mine does not leak (yet). I used ALOT of black RTV around the hole and let it get tacky for a few minutes before I inserted the plug.

You really should disassemble the manifold and do some porting, even if what you do is minor. There are several obstructions that should be removed/blended. My manifold needed work to match my heads. I spent over 20 hours (!) grinding, sanding, and wet sanding my intake. I enjoyed it though

The manifold pockets are the short nut and bolts. Crazy name...

Also, I would reuse the factory bolts so you can properly torque the rear bolts.

YMMV,
Andy

Mine does not reach at all. I am going to take it back off to make sure it isn't hung up on something.

Still not following the manifold pockets, do they mean the 6 that are already on it? The 3 in front/back?

Forgot this was on a vette, sorry. My vacuum line was easy and nothing hits on the Camaro.

For the vacuum line, does it go inside part of your PCM harness? You might be able to get some more slack in it by moving the harness a little.

Yes, the 6 bolts. 3 front/ back.

My car is a 2004, it seems there may be a few changes over the years... Your vacuum line could be held up by one of the many wires/hoses back there.

Good Luck!

i have the 90mm fast intake. it barely fits. i have to wiggle it a little before it gets on the bolt holes. for the the vaccum line, i cut the plastic that held it to the wiring and now i can move the vaccum line anywhere i want it. much easier.
