How strong are the stock rods....

Default How strong are the stock rods....
With a forged piston on top of them...Lets see what some others think...Ive heard they are plenty stong and the piston is what seems to give first...In stock form. Tossing some ideas around of which way to go right now.

Mine where shot peened and all the sharp edges shaved down they say that makes them stonger..

Strong enough, it is the bolts that let go.
You need to post for what application and HP goals.

Nitrous fed, 346 ci motor. At this point in time i leave off the T-brake and at 4000 rpms the car makes a hair over 600rwhp and over 800 ft lbs of torque at that RPM on the dyno. I broke another stock piston b/c of something i didnt do on one piston ring...OPEN THE GAP UP...I broke a ring installing the pistons into the new block and just grabbed a stocker and through in it without checking the gap on it. My fault.

Weighing my options...Ive got ARP fasteners holding it together. Just wondering how strong a stock untouched rod is. The goal is to make ~700 on stock heads with a good piston in the holes.

I would go with the lightest forged rods you can buy, and of course balance the whole assembly.
But stock will handle, untill when is another question.

The rod bolts are ****. The pistons are the same.
I cant say if the rods will hold or not as I dont think I have seen very many cars making 700HP through a Auto trans and with stock rods.
They are decent and I want to say they would work but I would have no proof to back that up.
I myself would probally go aftermarket.

rods should hold up to 600 rwhp or so lpe sells their short block and they use the stock rods just everything else beefed up.

Some FI guys have made that much through a th400 on stock rods. However they all switched it out. Rods are only like 470 for a good set. Just spring for them.
