Default Good deal on a cam?

Alright i have an opportunity to buy a cam pretty cheap and i'm wondering if i should jump on it or hold off. I'm not real smart on cams. The catch is its a comp cams XE-R 238/248, .604/.612 @ 112 and i have stock heads. The only mods i have is a ram air kit with whisper lid a flowmaster exhaust and 3.73s. I know i need a few more bolt ons to take full advantage of this cam but i am wondering if it would be a good investment and what else i MUST buy to make it work with my car. I'm in college so i don't want to break the bank and the car is still a daily driver.

Pretty big cam... I went with something similar. You'll need a good tune, dual springs and hardened pushrods for sure. Might want to upgrade the timing set or at least run the LS2 chain. Maybe an ASP pulley - the list is endless. It turns into a while you are in there thing.

I would definately do:
Dual Springs: $300
Pushrods: $80-150
Tune: $250-$400 (need this for idle and drivability)
LS2 Chain: $40 or Double Roller $180

You will LOVE the power - I only have 75 miles on my setup and haven't pushed it past 5500 RPM (6800 redline now) and she feels like a ROCKET

how will the idle be with this cam? I want to be able to feel and hear it. And how do u get it reprogrammed? I work at an automotive shop in my hometown and we have a computer programmer that checks and clears codes and that sort of thing. Will that be able to reprogram my car?

Then you'll like the cam. Only drawback is low RPM driving - the car likes to buck with the lope of the cam. Sounds NASTY with a cutout and real slick through the muffler. A good LS1 Edit tune will net you some good power, move you redline, adjust idle speed to get the cam friendly for a daily driver. Thee are lots of sponsors on here that do tuning, you should be abe to find one near you.
