Default Proper procedure for dynoing a car???

Yeah, I know this isn't the right section for this, but I knew the guys with the answers would be in here.

Anyway.....I am getting the car dynoed tomorrow while it's still stock. When I had my other car put on the dyno, A4, 3.23s, 3500 stall, they would put it in 3rd, and slowly bring the rpms up to 4k, then floor it to 6800. Was that the proper way? How do you get an accurate reading at the lower rpms if it's not full throttle the whole way? I've always heard for the m6 cars that you dyno in 4th......correct? Someone with some knowledge let me know the proper procedure....I want it done right. Thanks fellas.

its hard to sample at low RPMs with a 4L60E because it will want to downshift. six speeds can 't automatically downshift, so they could basically start sampling at idle if you wanted them to. the gear they choose for autos is 3rd because that is a 1:1 ratio, minimizing driveline drag. 1:1 on a six speed is 4th gear. hence the difference in gears used for dynoing. the should be able to sample alittle lower than 4,000 though. ask them to shoot for 3,000 to 3,100. it should do it without downshifting

With autos, the comparable gear to manuals is 3rd. Manual's 4th gear is 1:1 and in auto's it is 3rd gear. That is the most common way of dynoing a stalled A4. If they can lock the converter using HPTuners or TechII they can start the dyno run where ever.

Well I have a m6 car now so how should it be done? 4th gear @ 3k and nail it? Or what?

4th gear. you can start sampling WHERE EVER you want. typically, most testers start at 1,500-2,000, but you can start anywhere

Ditto. With the M6, start as low as you can IMO just to get a broader sample. With A4 cars, we can only start the lowest point where our car wont downshift. 3rd for autos is 1:1 and 4th for manuals is 1:1, so dyno in those gears according to your trans.
