Re: stock engine except heads?
as time consuming as it is to change the heads you might as well change the cam considering you are going to replace the valvetrain anyways. save another 400 get nice cam and s2heads <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

well to tell you the truth you will not see really a big difference. you will be dissappointed to spend 2500+ and maybe see 10-20 hp difference.(could be a litle more but i doubt it). It still ultimatley comes down to your cam to feed the heads to produce the power. bigger heads means the capability to move more air but if your cam is working the same you are not feeding it anythingmore then b4. stock heads flow really well that is why you will see nice gains from just a cam upgrade cuz you have more potental in stock heads and that is why you change the cam with s1 s2 heads so you can unlock the potential of the new heads.
I hope that pretty much summed it up why you would not want to swap just heads. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
now if you get them free then do it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> cant really hurt anything <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Well, to tell you the truth, you will see a big difference, especially if you have tuning. I ran a set of very mild CNC heads w/ stock valves for over 2 years in my '99 SS, w/ the stock cam, & pulled 360 HP, 359 TQ through Hooker shorties w/ cats, 3.73 gears. Tuning w/ LS1 Edit (& a pulley) got me the last 18 HP.
