Default head gaskets oem or cometic

Going to be running a 100-200 shot with 5.3 heads, should I get the cometic's? instead of oem's?

I would only run the cometics in a application where the block surface and the head surface are "new". If anything is more than .001" out, you could get a leak. I had hell with them in my brand new application, but it dosen't seem that all have the same problem. I may have had a surface that was mis-decked. If you do use Cometics, be sure and spray them with a light coat of copper gasket adhesive. You can get it at any auto parts store. It's made by permatex.

ive had my cometics off twice now on a 22k mile block that previously had graphite gaskets on it (not a perfect surface) and they sealed fine both times. I havent inroduced any extreme cylinder pressures (n2o or blower) but i have reved the motor to 7k.

Beast96Z, do you use permatex copper spray with cometics any time you use these gaskets? I am getting ready to install afr 205 heads on my 3000 mile vett and was wondering if I should do the same, will be using .040 cometics. Thanks

A light coat can't hurt. Even some of the sponsors recomended it when I posted that mine were leaking.
