Default Cam selection!!!

i have looked up and down and all over the internett for a cam that will match my needs. well i have found quite a few but still unsure of what im lookin for.

'02 SS A4 3500 stall and a few bolt ons.
car is a daily driver.

lookin for a cam that gives good power, is streetable, and sounds good.
i want a very noticable idle(choppy). i have a friend with a 224 on a 114 and it hits a lil bit but not much at all. i want more than that. i have a friend with a 231/237 on a 111 and it hits real good but prob too much for an A4. i want people to pull up next to me and be like whoa!!!

what do you guys recommend??? iu want to be able to install it and not have any drivability issues.

sound clips would be great

sorry for beatin a dead horse again!!!!

Try a F13 on a 112.
Its a 230/232 in a A4 on a 112 it will sound aggressive and make some awsome power.

F13 has crossed my mind...

someone told me tht a TR224 on a 112 would have a rougher idle than an F13 on a 112...

I'm running the G5X2 cam with my 3500 stall. Its a 232/240 cam, and with the open cut-out, you just get stares. There is NOBODY around my area that has a sound like mine. You sit at the red light, your car is shaking and chopping and louder than a harley, nothin' like it. Its all in the tune though, mine feels very responsive and a perfect DD, albeit a bit of bucking and surging. If you want sound and attention, get this cam. Not to mention a great deal of power.

i just want the ROUGHEST idle possible that is still drivable with a tune and 3500 stall in an A4 car. i want it to sound very aggressive but not to the point to where thats all it does, i mena i still want to gain some power also.

i have a friend with a big cam and its way too much. it sounds crazy but it hurts his performance.

Tsp 233/239, G5X2, FM12 or FM14?? (all on 112)

I'd suggest larger if you had a high stall.

Have you read JRP's cam guide? Or searched? A lot of people want exactly what you do.

Nasty idle and drivability don't go together. It's a matter of how much drivability you are willing to sacrifice, which varies from one person to the next. I run an MS3 (237/242 .603/.609 113) and 4k stall daily and it's just enough.

Do you know how to calcuate overlap?

[(intake duration plus exhaust duration) divided by 4] minus the LSA, then multiplied by two.

You can apply this at any increment. Most common measurement is at .05" lift, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Try to look at the advertised duration (.004 or .006) as well. The more overlap a cam has the more it will lope. Smaller cams have negative overlap at .05. A TR224 on a 112 has 0*. My MS3 has 13.5. The Trex has well over 20.

My guess is that you will be happy with something that has roughly 8-12 degrees of overlap at .05, depending on the particular cam and exactly how smooth you want it to drive. Right now the limiting factor as I see it is the 3500 stall speed converter.

Edit: Keep in mind that the conveter needs to be larger to match the larger cams powerband, not for drivability. You can drive a pretty large cam on a 3500 stall just fine, BUT the converter won't have a high enough stall speed/shift extension to put you into the meat of the powerband. THe larger cams don't REALLY come on strong until at least 4k rpm.

Get a F13 man and be done with it. It has a great lobe, great driveability, and great power. I think its a great all around cam. Not too big not too small. If thats a little too much then the F11 is the next best thing IMO. Well Goodluck.

With a 4k stall I'd go bigger. I was still thinking about a 3500 stall. Getting a wicked idle with strong power with a 3500 stall speed isn't something I can think of. Sounds like you want a wicked idle.

With a 4k stall I'd consider the previously mentioned 233/239 as the absolute smallest. Can you deal with a few minor nuinces that big cams yield? How about a G5X3 on a 114, or an MS3.
