Default Oil Pump O Ring...what am I doing wrong

Well I've been having oil pressure troubles and thought I had bad cam bearings(still may) so I started the tear down and found I had a pinched oil pump O ring. Swapped it out and I still have the same 40PSI so I'm guessing I pinched it again. This time I took every precaution I could. I took disassembled the whole pump to give me more room to work. It's really getting frustrating. I'm lubing the ring with oil, putting it on the tube and then tightening the bolt...watching to make sure it goes in evenly.

Default o ring

As long as you are tightning the bolt to specs, you are probably are ok, 40 is doable as long as it gets much higher when you rev it. But if it was 40 last time, and the o ring was pinched, ie damaged, you might want to try it one more time.

I get 40 at warm idle. People usually don't even get that much. Now cold idle I get like 65. And WOT I get near the end of the gauge I don't remember if that is like 65 or 75.

There is 2 different O-rings. One i much thinner than the other. If you put the thick in the thin application you will pinch it almost every time

That helps some. The first one i pinched was a regular blue gm. I had two felpro O rings here and I tried the thicker one. Time to take it apart and try the thinner one. I'm getting like 25psi cold idle, 40 or just over if I rev.

This is the first I've heard of two different oil pump O-rings. Do they depend on the model / year of engine, or what? In other words, how to tell if ya got the right one? And what are the GM part numbers ??

You should be able to see if the o-ring is pinched by using a mirror to look around the back of the tube. If you can't see the o-ring anywhere around the tube, it's not pinched. I had a very hard time not pinching a new blue GM o-ring. Took me three tries!

As you've already been told your pressure numbers are OK. You don't have to take the pump apart to do the "O" ring unless your running a double row chain. I found that taking the pump cover off and removing the gears helps me get the extra wriggle room needed to allow the pump pickup tube get started into the pump input port, but only because I run the double Rollmasters which push the pump 3mm forward making it much harder to convince the pickup tube it belongs inside of the pump input port.
