If you want a hard lope, lots of low end torque, but don't want to spin the motor to the moon, I would suggest something like a 224/228 110LSA, 110ICL (+0). You will need long tube headers (because of the overlap) and you'll need tuning to make it idle well and start up nice. It will lope pretty hard, but it will still have gobs of low end torque.

DBeck,

Your goals are very similar to mine (see my sig). I can't really address your emissions questions, but I dyno'd about 390 rhwp and hit close to 116 mph in the 1/4 before the FTRA, TB and gears. I'm hoping to run 11s next trip out. The cam has a pretty good lop too (I have the MTI X1 cam). There's a bunch of good cams on stock heads, like mentioned, the F13, and the TSP Torquer II will get you where you want to be and the Thunder 224/224 is great cam which should be a little better on emissions, but you probably won't quite as much high end power.

Get long tube headers, ported TB, maybe a pulley and then a cam with upgraded valvesprings, retainers, maybe pushrods and timing chain. Most sponsors ====> sell a cam package that includes these components. Next I would go for the gears, but not on the stock 10 bolt, they're weak. I went with a Moser 33 Spline 12 bolt with 4:10s, Strange makes a good piece too.

Plenty of great responses here.
As for why the F13 is so great, it's because it pulls hard up top (more so than the TR224), yet retains plenty of low end. Something which many max effort cams can't do.

Having more low end torque will not get you to 80 mph quicker than high end horsepower. If your car is setup to use the raised powerband of a top heavy cam it will be quicker than a smaller/torquier cam. If you don't believe me, I'll run ya from 0-80.

lol

thats why i put this in the cam guide, if anybody would bother to read it

- If you want to be a lazy **** and not do your own research to find the cam that best suits your application you can just pick up a tr224 114 cam which is the quintessential all around great daily driver cam or step up to the FMS FM13

well. I don't really have a limit. I guess I am looking for realistic upgrades. Somthing that will make my car one of the quickest on the street. Im not really looking to break any track records or anything.

Larger cams make more power. The catch is that it's produced at a higher rpm. Manual cars need steep gears and autos need high stall converters. For performance (assuming proper setup and matched parts) you want a BIG cam. Problem is that nobody is going to want to drive around with a 5500 stall converter or 4.56 gears and a T-rex, so you have to compromise when it's a street car. Personally I think my 4k stall and magic stick v.3 (237/242 .603/.609 113) is a great compramise. Not everybody would go that big, though. Maybe a 3500-3800 stall or a tighter 4k like the Yank SS4000, and a more moderate cam. Maybe an F13 or F14, TSP 233/239, torquer, G5X2......

Now, the important thing. I will ask again: Which transmission do you have?
You do realize you need a converter if auto, gears if manual, and bolt ons such as lid, LS6 intake manifold and full exhaust including proper headers, right??

DBeck - I would highly advise you stop here. Per JRP's stickies, and several other post on this board, the biggest Noobie mistake is diving into the mods head first.

I would suggest you get on amazon.com, and do a search for "Power Secrets by Smokey Yunik". This is an awesome book that explains, in layman's terms, how all the parts interact. After you read this book, you will have plenty of new questions, but they will help you to make a more informed decision to meet your goals.

Id say start with a nice catback to "keep you at bay". Then read, read, read this site. you should have an idea of how things work before throwing things into your car.

The F13 does look like a good cam... I like the wide range it offers....

But, on Futral's website... it's says the F13's idle is "rough". For a daily driver, this thing isn't going to just randomly stall while in traffic, will it?
