ls6 engines have 243 heads that are true ls6 heads, not sure about the cubes but i know a ls1 is a 342 and an ls2 is a 402

LS6 has better breathing heads, more compression, more aggressive cam, and different piston material. It's relatively easy to make LS6 power out of a late model LS1 since they both use the same block and intake manifold.
LS2 has larger bore and more displacement than LS1/LS6, LS6 heads, even higher compression, and a variety of other improvements including electronic throttle control.
LS1 - 346 cu. in., 350 hp
LS6 - 346 cu. in., 405 hp
LS2 - 366 cu. in., 400 hp

LS2=364ci

An LS1 with LS6 Heads and LS6 Cam will perform as well as a true LS6.
LS6 has larger ports in the oil passages within the block.

Edit: Any Heads/Cam combo from our sponsors will kick the crap out of an LS6 swap.

how come most people get aftermarket heads and cam instead of going with the ls6 upgrade package? especially 01 & 02 ls1's since they already have the ls6 intake.

I thought that the LS6 also had siamesed water jackets around the cylinders for better cooling? Or is that the LS2? Or, maybe the LS7?

Can't keep 'em all straight!!

A budget Stage 1 (5.7 or 5.3)head, plus a TR220 (baby) cam from Thunder will probably yield more power.

For a bit more money, TEA's Stage 1.5 "Budget" heads outperform many other's Stage 1-2.5 heads. Mate them to a mild/mid cam like the TSP 225 and you're money- breaking 400+rwhp for sure.

Or, just get a cam like the FUTRAL F13 or the TSP 233/239 RevII and you're breaking 400rwhp with stock heads, assuming M6 setup.

I've got a crate ls6 in my camaro and have out ran a many h/c cars. It's a perfect swap for sreetability, reliability and efficeincy (20-22mpg city 26-29mpg hway). 407 rwhp 119 plus trap speeds. Haven't had it back on the dyno since the last round of bolt ons but I'm sure it'll make 420 rwhp now. Best of all it's still stock internally.

407 RWHP from a stock LS6 cam and stock LS6 heads motor? Wow!

Those are some sweet numbers and times! I learn something new every day.
Best numbers I've seen for the setup. What kind of tire were you running?

Hm, guess I was off a little about the LS2's true displacement. Actually, it's 366.142463 cubic inches. That's according to any standard conversion table for 6.0 liters, anyway - unless it's actually less than 6.0 liters, of course....

I run on 18" road race rain tires witch is how I drive it everyday. Thats why the 60' suck. I'm sure it would go faster with a drag type set-up but I know it would probally break the rear. Not enough funds to fix that right now.

Its never what they say it is, an ls1 is around 5669.9 cm^3 which translates directly to 5.6699 liters. If the ls2 is 364 ci, then its probably more than likely is 5.9 and some change liters. A 427 ci engine is a little less than 7L. Thats how you get a 302 and 305 and they're both called 5.0L. I bet a 5.7L GM engine isnt the same ci as the chrysler 5.7L Hemi engine. Thats why it is called a 5.7L. All manufacturers round to a popular number, in some cases they'll even round down to get the number they want. One reason might be thats its pretty hard to get an exact number when making the engine, its possible, but not really worth going through the trouble.
