I have had it in since April, and it has about 1200-1500 miles on it. I doubt I will change it until at least late October. I plan to send a sample off then.

Hi Patman,
Guys like me change my oil every 6 months, independent of miles – sometime the oil only has 1200 miles or less. my 92 Z-28 get driven only 300 miles a year and 02 has only about 5000 miles on it. The car sits most of the time and I am sure there is moisture inside the block, so the oil must get some contaminates by just sitting there. I will agree with you about a car that is run most of the time (daily use), does not need to change the oil at 3,000 and car that do highway driving can go longer. The only point here is mileages is the only consideration.
Thanks
Bill

You could drain some of the oil in your cars that sit for long periods of time and have it analyzed. Then one would have a better idea as to how sitting for long periods and its effect on oil life.

Hi Cannibal
Good point, I think I will do that.
Thanks

Not a technical analysis by any means, but I swapped to the GC 0w30 in my car after break in period in my LS1 swapped car. After running it for a couple hundred miles I had to drain it (oil leak that existed before). I had the engine out of the car to work on the leak, and noticed that everything (pan, valley, valley covers, etc) is dramatically cleaner after running the GC.

To get to the point, does the GC have a lot of cleaning agents? I'm very impressed by the condition of the internals after running this oil (though I probably need to change my filter soon, as all the stuff cleaned out of the engine had to go somewhere).

Patman, has anyone done an analysis on the M05 GC? I have 6 quarts of M04 that I'm saving...(possibly for when I buy a vette) I also have some M05 that my dad picked up thinking it was the green stuff (I don't blame him, the bottle is exactly the same). I'm running Amsoil 5W-30 now but I'm sure I'll hit a year before I hit 5,000 miles or so.

How long should the change period be with the mobil 1 5w40? Can you list me some filter's as well. I'd like to put good stuff in there but I'm still going to change fairly often I think. I have 103,000 miles on my car.

WIX (Napa Gold) is a good filter and easy to fine. Mobil1 also makes a decent filter. Fram is the devil. www.bobistheoilguy.com has a great filter test/writeup.

You should be able to go at least 5,000 - 7,000 on a good synthetic oil. I'd do an oil analysis after 5k to be safe and see how the oil is doing. Once you find out what the safe limit is for the oil, keep running it at that length. Because I don't think you really save money if you're analyzing the oil like crazy.

Filters: M1, Amsoil, K&N, Purolator Pure Oil, Wix, Bosch....

Can somone post a pic of a bottle of this GC? Preferably what to look for when going to the store to determine that it is indeed GC? I assume this is the Syntec?

Make sure on the back it says "Made in Germany" and on the bottom of the bottle there is a number that has to do with its manufacture date... The GC are bottles that are M03xxx and M04xxx. It also has a green tint to it... when in doubt pop the cap on one of them, but usually you can tell through the clear measuring side. Check out the pictures I took... lol I only have like 7 quarts. When I was out today I stopped at 3 stores and no more M03 or M04 GC . Donations? Oh! check out the last picture, I found some old crap M01!!

M03 has gold lettering, M04 has white... FYI

Hmmm, I thought the Mobil 1 0w40 was the preferred viscosity out of the Mobils. After reading this on the 8k interval, I might try and find the Castrol GC somewhere. I knew the GC was suppose to be better, but I didn't know that it was THAT much better than the Mobil 1 0w40.....

So how much is a case of this stuff? Is it something of a limited edition? Not to sound very naive but I just assoutofuandme ASSUMED that most of the oils were within a tolerable aspect of each other, i.e. Pennzoil, Mobil, Valvoline etc.

so then eventually this stuff is going to run out? what will you guys use then, just incase I cant find any of this.

Im doing a cam swap now, trading the T-rex for a Futral F14 (232/234 .598/.598 112+4) and I was told to go with thicker oil, a friend has a camaro, I beleive he uses 10w50?. What would be the better to use for my application GC 0w30, or 0w40 (and what brand)?

I was running 5w30 Mobile 1 Full Synthetic with a Napa Gold Filter, stock sized and during idle was seeing low oil pressure, around 30-35psi

I recently switched over to Mobile 1 10w30 and switched over to a Silverado filter, I forgot which one to be honest, I believe its off a 2002 Silverado but I might be incorrect, which is also a Napa Gold, its almost 2 inches longer than the stock sized filter, and I see 50psi now during hot idle.

I usually change out my oil every 5-6 weeks. My engine builder suggested Mobile 1 over all the other Oil Companies, he said from all the main/rod bearings he has seen, the bearings that have came out of motors running Mobile 1 were in the best shape, so I have stuck with that.

Edit: Damn 2 year bump, oh well, im sure someone will get use out of this thread still.
