Default help ARP Main Stud Problem LS6

The Speed shop is finishing my motor and they are using ARP main studs Part# 2345608 on my ls6 block with steel main caps, all the studs are the same length in the kit but when installed in the inner cap they are 3/8 inch shy and when they are in the outer cap they are 1 1/4 inch long
ARP said to not put the stud in all the way on the inner BUT WOULD THAT LOSEN UP WITH MY SUPER CHARGED 640HP MOTOR?? and to cut all the outer studs???

you do not want to bottom stud into block, i run them in by hand then back out 1/2 turn, sounds like incorrect length

Perhaps you need to reverse the studs (Inner in the outer and vica versa)....

Don't forget the outer studs stick up higher to mount the windage tray and oil pump pick up tube.

The inner studs will literally be flush with the top of the nuts when you torque them down....

all the outer studs sticks out 1 1/4 inches thats alot. and the inners if i don't bottom them out they won't losen up?

on the main studs if you look at them, there are 10 long and 10 short. the longer ones go in the inner bolt holes. also if you notice the long one has about an inch less thread on it. that is also a way to tell which one goes in the right spot. if you intall them incorrectly you will end up with the situation you are having now. just switch them and you should be golden.

and by the way dont bottom them out. tight by hand till hits the bottom and then losen about 1/2 turn. if you want you can do final assembly with lock tite but you have to install and torque the caps before the locktite dries.

They may look the same lenght at a glance, but they arent. The threads are longer on some too.

I thought I had a major problem when I started to put mine together too. I just wasnt paying attention.

and by the way if a speed shop cant figure that out i would be very worried if they were building my engine unless there really is a problem with the studs.

bottoming a stud can may cause crank to violently remove itself from the block. load is no longer distributed across stud and block threads. properly torqued, they will not back out
