Question Cams??????????

ok I have no clue what cams r or do ....i'm a complete newbe when u guys talk about cams and lift and what not.....i'll will be hopefully getting a 2000 auto Z28 soon and thought n/a might be the way to go but i don't want a huge cam just a small to mid range that won't make it sound to harsh or "lopey???" but enough to notice power and a good exhaust note....that comes to mind that i have no idea how cams work or change sound or anything....can u guys please explain how cams work and what the numbers mean and what would a good cam would u point me too(NO HUGE *** CAMS that your car sruggles to ideal....this car will be my daily driver) Please help enlighten me!!! thanks guys, u r the best around!

check out ls1howto.com - there is an f body camswap guide with a little description of different cam sizes and a chart listing the range of mild to extreme cams
