have anyone used or heard any info on this new compstar rods? They claim to be real good at a affordable price since they are a new company on the block.

I am building a 383 with them right now....They are machined by Callies here in the good ole USA. I was very impressed with the quality, finish, and consistancy of their tolerances. They are an H-Beam Design and still come in fairly light (about 600 grams).

I would definately recommend them....

They are being used by a lot of good shops in almost all street engine applications and even some race engine applications.

rpm's usually break rods, not power. HP ratings dont mean very much.

I got my Callies from HPE, and they looked pretty good. Def excellent value for money ( and even better with the UK's £/$ exchange rate )

I have a set waiting to go into my high CR, stock in motor. I am really impressed with the finish and quality of them. The price isnt bad either. To me they were the happy medium between a set of killer olivers and eagle crap.

This is from a post by Joe Racer(screen name for Callies quality type dude, this guy knows his stuff, believe me)
That's usually one of the first questions we get.....

In reality, we look at piston weight vs. RPM. It's not the HP that stresses the rod, the critical point is at the top of the exhaust stroke, transitioning to the downward motion of the intake stroke. The exhast valve is closing, the intake is opening - creating negative pressure above the piston, the crankpin is pulling down on the rod, and the piston has to change direction. This is the point where the rod is trying to be pulled apart. Forced induction is actually easier on rods than an N/A application. The pressurized intake charge quickly starting to fill the cylinder early in the cycle helps to reduce the tensile loads on the rod.

I'll tell you what our sales staff is instructed to tell our customers....
750 HP for Small Blocks & 950 HP for Big blocks, but i'm not too nervous about pushing them harder.(end quote)

Callies has LS1 cranks, the Callies crank is considered one of the best ones around.

My work has been using them for while now, about 20 sets, in 347's, 402's, 422's, and 427cid combo's. All sets withing a tenth every time! we have been using their cranks also, and great quality and i like the weight of them also

Just finished up a stock cubed blower motor with Compstar rods and AFR225cc heads. The quality, fit & finish as well as the weight variation between the lightest and heaviest rod. I believe is was .5 grams
